"Red Leaf" Kimono
Steve Sells Studio
This exquisitely handcrafted masterpiece makes a commanding statement in any interior setting. Painstakingly, layer upon layer of translucent shibori-dyed silk organza has been meticulously arranged to fashion this captivating composition. These layers gracefully envelop a wool batting, which is skillfully sheathed on both sides with silk crepe, ornately quilted throughout. The quilting lines, artfully inspired by the dyework in each section, are as breathtaking from the inside of the Kimono as they are from the outside. While this piece can be worn as an oversized ceremonial garment, its primary purpose is to serve as a striking wall display.
Countless hours of dedicated handwork work have been invested in the intricate dyeing, pattern placement, and quilting that converge to create this museum-quality masterpiece. The Smithsonian Museum honored this exceptional creation with the "Best in Show" award at it's prestigious Art2Wear Exhibit.
